Careers

Grady College partners with UGA’s Career Center to help students and alumni with their career planning and development. We also connect interested employers with our students and alumni for all recruiting and staffing needs.

We can help students find employment opportunities, improve your resume or job interviewing skills and connect you with the right people at seminars, career fairs and alumni and employer networking events.

We can help our employers list job and internship opportunities, get connected to the best student and alumni candidates and host visits on campus for career fairs, coffee chats and more.

Networking & Career Prep

Grady College students have a variety of programs and resources available to them to help network and find internships and entry-level jobs. Grady College and the UGA Career Center provide the following connection opportunities:

Grady College PAW PROGRAM

The Propelling Achievement for the Workplace (PAW) Program is a career program designed to help admitted Grady College students develop crucial professional skills to help you succeed in your future internship and full-time workplace.

The goal is to connect students and employers more directly throughout the academic year. If you complete the program checklist — which is a comprehensive list of career development tasks — you will be prepared to skillfully interact with employers. When they visit the college or otherwise aim to recruit our students, you will get additional access by being in the program.

Join our eLC course to see all assignments and program details. Please only join once you have been admitted into your Grady College program.

Internships

Grady College students are encouraged to seek internships prior to graduation. Take advantage of the career resources listed above to prepare internship applications and find openings. Students accepted into their Grady College major may also take internships for academic credit as an elective. More information on this is below.

Advertising Internships

If you successfully complete all of the requirements of an approved internship while concurrently enrolled in ADPR 5010 (Advertising Internship), you can earn up to three (3) college elective hours of credit.

Who may take an advertising internship for academic credit?

Students enrolled in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication who have satisfactorily completed (grade C- or better) in ADPR 3100, 3110 and 3120.

Journalism Internships

If you successfully complete all of the requirements of an approved internship while concurrently enrolled in ADPR 5010 (Media Internship), you can earn up to three (3) college elective hours of credit.

Who may take a journalism internship for credit?

Students enrolled in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication who have satisfactorily completed (grade C- or better) in JOUR 3090 and JOUR 3190 (or JOUR 3190H).

Public Relations Internships

If you successfully complete all of the requirements of an approved internship while concurrently enrolled in ADPR 5011 (Public Relations Internship), you can earn up to three (3) college elective hours of credit.

Who may take a PR internship for academic credit?

Students enrolled in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication who have satisfactorily completed (grade C- or better) in ADPR 3850, 5920, and JOUR 3190.

Talking Dog Internship

If you successfully complete all of the requirements of an approved internship while concurrently enrolled in ADPR 5012 (Talking Dog Agency Internship), you can earn up to three (3) college elective hours of credit.

Who may take Talking Dog as an internship for academic credit?

Students enrolled in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication who have satisfactorily completed (grade C- or better) in (ADPR 3850, 5920 and JOUR 3190 for PR students), (ADPR 3100, 3110 and 3120 for Ad students), or, other non-Grady College students with at least one year of Talking Dog Agency experience.

Entertainment and Media Studies Internships

If you successfully complete all of the requirements of an approved internship while concurrently enrolled in EMST 5010 (Media Entertainment Industry Internship), you can earn up to three (3) college elective hours of credit.

Who may take an EMST internship for academic credit?

Students enrolled in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication who have satisfactorily completed (grade C- or better) in EMST 3110 and EMST 3150.

Grady Job Lead Listservs & Internships Newsletter 

Targeted toward students and young alumni, this listserv features the weekly jobs and internships newsletter, DEI careers newsletter and information regarding employer campus visits and major deadlines. The communications highlight internships and entry-level jobs in the communications industry for current students and graduates up to two years out. If you are a Grady College student or graduate and want to be added to the listserv, please contact Samantha Meyer.

Alumni Career Coaching

Career services are free and available to all UGA graduates for the duration of their career.

Young alumni who have graduated within the past two years may make an appointment with the UGA Career Center at (706) 542-3375 or through the email linked below.

Alumni who have graduated two or more years ago may meet with the Associate Director of Alumni Career Services, based in the UGA Career Center. Review the many resources available for every stage in your career and/or set up an alumni career coaching appointment time through the links below. 

Become a Mentor

Alumni and friends of Grady College are encouraged to participate in the UGA Mentor Program. This is a structured opportunity for current undergraduate and graduate students to connect with you about your career and industry. You can opt in to 16-week mentorships or Quick Chats, which are 15-to-30-minute informational interviews. The program provides a meaningful opportunity for our students to connect with experienced professionals like you in their career field of interest. You do not have to be based in the Athens area to join.

We value the support of employers. There are several ways employers can get involved with Grady College to network with current students and future employees:

Post a job for any UGA student/graduate

Post employment opportunities on Handshake, UGA’s online job board. Only UGA students and alumni have access to this and posting is free! You can target your posting to students in Grady College majors and certificates. Email Samantha Meyer at sam610@uga.edu for detailed instructions and questions.

Grady Jobs & Internships Newsletter

Grady College students and recent alumni receive a weekly Grady Jobs and Internships email newsletter and weekly DEI careers newsletter through the Grady Job Leads listserv. Posts are primarily pulled from Handshake and will be left in until the deadline.

Host a Grady College student

UGA’s Intern For A Day program allows employers to host one or more students at your location. It is a great way to connect with students, source Grady talent and provide information about your industry.

Connect with Students in the Journalism Building

We offer several options to connect with Grady students right here in our building. Employers have conducted info sessions, drop-in recruiting hours and coffee chats, resume and LinkedIn reviews and on-campus interviews with Grady students in the Journalism Building. Career Fair

Host a booth at one of our career fairs including AdPR Connection held every fall and the Journalism and Mass Communication Career Day held each spring.
