Careers & Internships

Perspectives

“Take advantage of all the hands-on opportunities that UGA offers for student journalists. This means getting involved with The Red & Black, Newsource, or anything else that can get you physical proof of your talent. Coming out of college with an impressive portfolio or reel will set you apart from the beginning.”

Julianna Russ

CNN Documentary Unit Intern, Summer 2023

Perspectives

“Without a doubt, my Grady coursework has helped me refine my journalistic abilities. In particular, my photojournalism classes have pushed me so much as a visual storyteller and documenter, and I feel more confident in my abilities to approach strangers and to tell a story through words, images or both.”

Skyli Alvarez

Journalism Student, Editorial Intern, Teen Vogue (Summer 2023)

Perspectives

“I’ve been able to push myself to test the limits on what I’m capable of. That includes trying new effects in Premiere Pro and After Effects. It’s really awesome to be able to overcome a challenge and feel like you made something from nothing.”

Audrie Uphues

Journalism Student, Creative Video Intern, Georgia Football Creative

Perspectives

“The classes I have taken in the Grady Sports Media Institute couldn’t have prepared me better for the work I’d have the chance to do with ESPN. Hands-on work editing feature packages and learning to take quick direction and think on my feet from classes like Sportsource had me as ready as could be.”

DonA Traylor-Askew

(AB ‘23), former ESPN intern

Perspectives

“My Brand Storytelling and Media Activation and Strategy courses taught me how to really get familiar with a brand, including their values. During the first couple of weeks, I studied the Delta brand values and learned about the nuanced airline industry.”

Deborah Yoon

Advertising student, Brand Marketing Intern, Delta Airlines (Summer 2023)

Perspectives

“My classes in Grady have prepared me for this internship by teaching me the importance of telling stories that will make the biggest impact; the stories that really resonate with audiences, that teach people about the things that matter, and further spark our imagination for the stories we tell in the future. I’ve been fortunate to learn from some of the most amazing professors in Grady and I’m so grateful for all their wisdom, guidance and encouragement over the past 3 years.”

Tee Dickinson

EMST, Production Intern, NewsNation Network (Summer 2023)

Perspectives

“Finding jobs is all in the way you market yourself. A willingness to learn and perseverance can take you lengths farther than hard skills.”

Blake Campbell

Journalism student, Integrated Media Planning Intern, TBWA/Media Arts Lab (Summer 2023)

Perspectives

“Utilize the career fairs and learn to follow-up. Even if you know the job isn’t for you, it never hurts to make connections, spread your resume and practice interviewing.”

Olivia Lamme

PR student, Media Relations Intern, UPS (Summer 2023)

Perspectives

“Taking Entertainment Industries instilled in me the background knowledge of the industry. This helped tremendously in being able to hold a conversation with the other interns and the agents. Being film/TV literate has also helped a lot in being able to connect with the people that are out here.”

Rahel Kefetew

EMST, Commercial Endorsements Intern, Creative Artists Agency (Summer 2023)
